The Episcopal Seminary of Pontremoli is proposed as a Center for Documentation and Preservation of the Ancient Book. This is due to the presence of a Laboratory of Restoration of Archival-Book Heritage and of the precious Library.
The latter boasts a very rich Ancient Fund whose first nucleus dates back to the Convent of the minor Franciscan friars, of which the Grand Duke Leopold of Tuscany decided to abolish it in 1784 and includes – in addition to numerous five hundreds – also precious incunabula.
Subsequently, the library was enriched with numerous donations made by famous people, noble families of Pontremoli. Researchers and scholars thanks to which today’s ancient fund can boast valuable volumes, different for dating, origin and subject matter, including a rich fund of local history.
This stop is included into “Pages of Lunigiana” experience.
